Nosy Be, Nosy Iranja, or Sainte-Marie: which island to choose?

These are the three most requested islands among travellers planning a Madagascar trip, and they're quite different from one another. Here's enough to guide a first choice — the precise itinerary is then built with you through the questionnaire.

Nosy Be, in the north-west, is the most accessible: direct flights from Antananarivo, the island's highest density of accommodation (from simple bungalows to upscale lodges), and a real choice of day excursions (Nosy Komba, Nosy Tanikely). A good base if you want a beach-and-excursions mix without too much logistics.

Nosy Iranja, further south, takes more effort to reach — usually by boat from Nosy Be, either as a day trip or one or two nights on site. In exchange: an iconic sandbank and a noticeably quieter atmosphere — less infrastructure, so less suited if you're after comfort or nightlife.

Sainte-Marie, on the east coast, has a different profile: more direct access from Antananarivo, a humpback whale season (roughly July to September), and a more authentic village feel. It's more exposed to cyclone risk early in the year, though, which weighs on date choice.
